0:00-The video opens with a wide view of an older-looking living room. Two girls are sitting on opposite ends of a dark tan couch. The one on the left has long curly brown hair and the one on the right has straight blonde hair. They are holding their arms and legs stiffly and are looking off in opposite directions; they both look uncomfortable. The girls look to be about 17 or 18; possibly they are friends, sisters, girlfriends, or even cousins. The lighting is very yellow and nostalgic. There are many objects throughout the room, suggesting that they are in a middle-class home; it is probably one of the girl’s homes. The opening visuals suggest that there is an issue and the girls are having trouble talking about it. The lighting makes the audience feel on edge and uncomfortable and the slightly disorganized home ensures a homey, yet awkward feel.

0:01-The video cuts to a close-up view of the brown-haired girl. The camera is pointed at an angle that shows the side of her face-it is as if it is from the perspective of the blonde-haired girl. The brown-haired girl is looking down and has a frown on her face. She looks like something is bothering her but she is not moving. This angle brings the viewer into the situation and forces them to experience the awkward interaction on a personal level.

0:03-The video cuts to a close-up of the blonde-haired girl, at a side angle, as if it was from the perspective of the brown-haired girl. She opens her mouth as she looks at the other girl like it is difficult to talk. This shot suggests that the blonde-haired girl is trying to talk to the brown-haired girl about something-perhaps she is not the one experiencing the issue, but she wants to help the other girl work through it. Once again, the camera angle makes the audience feel present in the moment.

0:05-The camera angle goes back to a wide view, as it was at the start of the video. The blonde-haired girl shuts her mouth and the girls are still sitting awkwardly. Suddenly, a man rises out of the couch cushions between the two girls. He is wearing a turtleneck that is close to the same color as the couch. Immediately, his presence adds comedy to the situation and breaks some of the awkwardness looming in the space. The girls do not seem to notice the new person, so this leads us to believe that he is an external presence that is commenting on the situation.

0:09: The next scene is of two men in a hot tub at what seems to be a spa. The lighting is red and more light than in the first scene. The men also look uncomfortable. Perhaps these people are brothers, boyfriends, friends, etc. The camera angle is a similar wide shot from the front. This allows the viewers to see the situation in all of its awkwardness. The same man from before suddenly rises out of the hot tub, once again, releasing the tension of the scene and adding some comedy.

0:10-The next scene is another wide shot of two men standing next to each other using urinals. It looks like they are in a high school bathroom or locker room. They are dressed in football uniforms, suggesting that they are friends and teammates. The audience cannot see their faces but the overall situation is awkward, so we still get the feeling of the scene. The man in the turtleneck is standing between them, barely squeezed in. He has a big smile on his face, which shows that he does not find the situation uncomfortable. The football players do not notice him. This leads us to believe that the man in the turtleneck represents awkwardness.

0:11-The next shot is an overhead view of a man and a woman naked lying next to each other in bed. They look to be in a home; the bed looks fairly basic and there are bedside tables on each side of the bed. It is clear that they just had sex, probably for the first time, considering their body language. They glance at each other and then look up at the ceiling, which is the angle that the camera is at. They are both clearly awkward after what just happened. The man in the turtleneck is lying between them but he does not look awkward at all; he has a smirk on his face. The angle allows the viewers to have a personal perspective of the situation.

0:13-The video goes back to the hot tub scene but this time the view is zoomed in on the man in the turtleneck as he talks. It then skips to the scene of the girls on the couch, where the camera is still zoomed in on the man in the middle. He talks and points to the blonde-haired girl. This shows the audience that he is addressing the situation.

0:18-The next shot is another wide view of the girls on the couch, but the man is not sitting between them anymore. The camera zooms to the side view of the blond-haired girl and she looks at the brown-haired girl and reluctantly starts talking to her. This is a sweet moment and you can tell that the blond-haired girl cares about the other girl and wants to talk about what is on her mind.

0:22-The angle switches to the side of the brown-haired girl. She shakes her head and looks down, finally responding to her friend. The viewers can feel the tension release a bit.

0:24-The man in the turtleneck is sitting in a chair in the room and gives a thumbs up, as if to say, “My work here is done”. The video ends on a light note and the awkward feeling that was present at the start has now been released a bit. The overall message that is communicated by the visuals in the video is that uncomfortable situations can be solved if people talk to each other and express what is on their minds. It is important to be honest and open in situations that are not always easy to handle. Check in with the people you care about and make sure they are doing ok, especially when they seem on edge or unsure of a situation.

Sports nowadays are played with one of four reasons in mind; for fun, for scholarships, for money and for an outlet. Fun is how most people start out playing, hopping from one sport to the next to find the ones that are most enjoyable and stress relieving. Scholarships are either sought after or a bonus, some people may need to receive a scholarship in order to go to college and others may receive without trying to achieve them. Money, different from scholarships, is a career which many have decided that they not only have fun playing, but would like to make this their career. Then there are those who need support, who have no way of getting their emotions out. Those who have a hard time expressing themselves, who have bottled up anger and stress. Numerous players use their sport as an outlet for the negative emotions they have allowed to linger. Some sports give players a more physical way to channel their feelings through contact, while others give an outlet for stress through a less physically damaging sense of competitiveness. Although all sports are equally difficult and competitive in their respective fields, there are those who get outshined by the sports heavily involved in physical contact. Women’s lacrosse, although it is not as physically active as its male counterpart, is outshined regardless of it being the superior version.

College has become an essential part of the hiring process, the better the degree is, the better the job a person can acquire. Young adults are tasked with shaping their lives at an age that is still as confusing as when you had to learn to coexist with others. America in particular has a system that just throws students into the world with little support and guidance. Even in college, students are still not always given enough  guidance and opportunities to figure out what they want to do. With very little time to think about anything besides school, kids struggle to find the thing they want to do. So many students dropout of school due to the lack of motivation in the major they thought they loved or the overwhelming workload they are forced to put on themselves. Some students are forced to elongate their four year plan because they are unable to keep up with the semester schedules that the college has proposed. College should not be an idea forced onto highschool students in such an urgent manner. Allowing and encouraging the students to take a year off to collect their thoughts after twelve plus years of non-stop schooling would allow students to collect themselves and explore the options that our job economy holds. High schools should push for students who are struggling to confirm their major to take time off and explore their interests through internships or camps before being forced into one of the most stressful times of their lives.

The entire video is a drawn animation, so the image changes slightly each frame. This overall animation style fits well with the videos main message for Alzheimer’s awareness. A constantly moving picture can be very confusion for someone with Alzheimer’s to be able to recognize something.

0:00 – 0:02

The first two seconds are a coffee cup like the ones in diners everywhere, getting filled by a teapot spout.

0:02 – 0:04

The camera moves up to reveal a woman around middle age sitting at the table behind the teacup. She looks up from the teacup to something standing slightly above her, she has a loving look as she has one hand on her face as her elbow rests on the table. The camera pauses for a moment centered at face level.

0:04 – 0:07

The camera moves to a wide shot revealing another older woman (most likely the first woman’s mother) standing in front of the table. She is holding a teapot with both hands facing her daughter, (who is sitting with her legs crossed at a table with two chairs). As the mother turns to face the camera her daughter sits up and gives off an attentive feeling as she watches her mother start to walk towards the right side of the camera.

0:07 – 0:08

The camera turns with her as she passesand we she walks into a kitchen the counters and islands are drawn into existence. The corner of the kitchen is in the middle of the screen and spans the entire screen.

0:08 – 0:13

The kitchen compresses itself and shifts, the island that is located at the bottom of the screen moves towards the center of the screen and attaches itself to the right counter and squares of the right side of the counter. The left side compresses slightly inward as cupboards above are erased along with the hanging lights which are replaced with triangular ones. This gives us an insight to how someone would feel when they walk into a room, something doesn’t feel right, it becomes something and somewhere else. They begin to freak out or panic as they feel like they are no longer in a safe place.

0:13 – 0:17

The camera zooms in on her head from top of the shoulders up (her face goes from happy to slightly scared and confused), and begins to spin around her head. A ring of four keys that spread out in every direction like a compass crosses in front of her face from right to left in front of the camera. Her focus follows the keys until they are off screen, as we also see a toothbrush cross from left to right behind her and disappears from behind her head.

0:17 – 0:18

The camera pauses on her face as she looks towards the left of the camera, slightly above. She continues to look slightly scared and confused.

0:19 – 0:22

The camera zooms slightly out enough to see she is still holding onto the teapot with both hands, she is standing towards the right side of the screen. Her daughter is drawn into the screen from a basic outline to slight shading in the shirt, face and hair. She places her left hand on her mother with a smile, the mother looks at her and some of the confusion and fear leaves her face. While still making eye contact the daughter uses both hands to gently take the teapot from her, drawing the mothers attention to her hands until the teapot has left them. She looks to her daughter and smiles for a second and then looks down and out with a hint of disappointment in her eyes, putting her hands together. Her daughter and at the same time places her hand back on her mother’s back and slightly bends down to be able to look at her mother (who is an inch or two smaller than her) at eye level.

0:23 – 0:27

The shot widens to reveal what the kitchen truly looks like, the table to the right of the screen nas the countertops strighton and wrapping around off screen right. Writing fades in above their heads “When something feels different, It could be Alzheimer’s.” As the words become darker they both stand tall and look at each other happily, the mother turns her body slightly to face her daughter as the entire screen slowly fades out.

Opening #1

The human pursuit to make life as effortless as possible, has deemed the human body as the equivalent of a utilitarian piece of junk. What once was building railroads and large ocean liners to improve transportation, we now start our cars at the push of a button. When our families needed food we plowed fields, shoveled dirt and grew it ourselves. Now, we simply go to the grocery store and have our pick of thousands of items. Communication had many moving parts for it to be successful which took time and now it is at the click of a button or the split second of a call. We’re industrializing ourselves to the point where the human body will not have any function, but to direct the technology it has created.

Opening #2

Since the industrial revolution our role as humans has to make life as easy as possible. We’ve created new forms of transportation, communication and agriculture that have made our lives full of instant gratification, stripping it of the once needed hard work. Instead of necessary and beneficial hard work we now result to spending time and money towards a gym membership. What once was hard work in order to get the necessities of life taken care of, is now lifting heavy weights and putting them right back down where we found them and running on treadmills while staying in the exact place we’ve started. Healthy hard work is so scarce that we do essentially useless tasks in order to get our necessary activity.

The way that we have used the land in our country has been irreparably changed, and the land we have left is decreasing as time passes. The steps that we take next with how we use our land will be important for the sustainability of food sources in the future. To keep our sources of food both efficient and sustainable, correct usage of land is imperative, and neither agricultural or livestock farming is the exclusive path to this. Each section of useable land should be allocated to farming can be supported the best, as well as the best methods and technologies in food production that do not encroach on ethics.

What has been sold in stores is heavily affected by the consumer, which affects how the farmland that we have available is used. When consumer interest increases for products, the demand creates a need to find resources to create the product. Using the land we have correctly is imperative to be able to constantly cater to the demands of a constantly changing consumer base. When using land for either agricultural reasons or livestock farming, it is needed to know what that land could be best suited for, as it is not created equal and land can provide better for certain purposes over others.

0.00-0.01

We see a man putting on some type of work out glove.  He is wearing rubber bracelets on and a fitness watch of some sort which we can infer that he is active.  He is inside of a home.  From his forearms, we can assume he is in good shape and that he is very active. There is no shot of the mans head in this first scene. We get a view of his legs, arms and overall physique which is screaming out that he is a dedicated individual.

0.01-0.02

With quick pauses throughout this frame we can see the word “Veteran” across the previously mentioned rubber bracelet. We see him putting on cycling shoes and getting on a stationary bike.  We see the process of him putting on these shoes. It is very methodical, even in the quick frame and we get a sense of organization and great efficiency. There is a feeling of routine and process by the way he prepares for this workout and while he actually is riding the bike. He takes care and pride as he goes about the workout and he shows dedication and consistence. The lower frame reveals he is wearing biking shorts and most likely is an avid cycler.  We see an american flag draped over the bike so this further solidifies his involvement in the military.

0.02-0.04

In these two seconds the clip does not change much; it is a slow motion video of him pedaling.  It does clearly reveal a military tattoo which, again solidifies his military background.  We can get a sense that he is in very good shape now that we see his legs in frame.  He looks very athletic. There is a funny conflicting between him being all geared up for a workout inside on a bike that goes nowhere. This implies that he goes above and beyond, almost a bit of overachieving. We get a sense that he is all about doing things the right way.

0.04-0.05

Now he is sitting on the couch with an American flag in the background.  We see his face for the first time.  He is very lean with short hair and looks to be sitting in his house for an interview.

0.05-0.08

We flash to a picture of the man next to an airplane.  HIs identity is revealed and his name is USAF Sergeant Chris Jachimiec.  He is next to a fighter jet so we can assume he is in the air force and probably flew one of these jets.

0.08-0.12

The next few seconds are Chris talking intensely about something.  We can assume it is in regard to his experience in the military, but other than that there are no new clues within the video.

0.12-0.15

The camera flashes to a picture of Chris and another man and woman.  We assume that this is Chris’s mother and brother based on the age difference and resemblance.  His brother looks a little younger than him with glasses.

0.15-0.18

In this frame we see a box that says in loving memory of Adam John Jachimiec.  We infer that this was his brother who unfortunately passed away due to the war or some other circumstance.  There is also a memorial flag out of focus in the background.

0.18-0.20

We flash back to Chris’s face and his expression seems somber and choked up.  He looks lost in thought and we can make assumptions that he is thinking about his brother for a brief moment and is upset.

0.20-0.22

In this frame he is back on the bike.  We get a sense of movin gone, or that Chris must continue on the path of life even without his brother.

0.22-0.23

We see here a quick glimpse of pistol magazines with bullets in them, along with Chris locking them away in a safe.  This could mean that his brothers death had something to do with lack of gun security or it could mean that guns in general had something to do with his brother’s death.

0.23-0.27

The camera flashes back to Chris speaking.  We obviously can’t hear what he is saying, but can infer that he is saying it with conviction and is very passionate about the topic.

0.27-0.30

The clip ends with a black background and bold letters saying Service Never Stops @endfamilyfire.org. This is a big clue to his brothers death.  It seems as though his brother Adam could’ve taken his own life or an accident happened within the home where is brother was killed due to an accidental shot.

Open Strong—kingofcamp

For many centuries in Western culture, women have been subjected to oppression and the objectivation of their bodies; while men have taken authority and defined what it means to be a virgin in the female perspective. In the patriarchal society, women have been silenced by the power men have over women. By objectifying female virginity, women have taken it among themselves to “romanticize” their own virginity, considering it to be “sacred.” Therefore, because men have objectified female virginity for centuries, women have taken the matter into their own hands, “romanticizing” their own virginity and in result, objectifying themselves.
It is counterintuitive to believe that women, collectively, have objectified their own virginity. For centuries, men have held overall power and jurisdiction in the West. Because of relentless confinement, women desired to hold some type of power over their bodies, therefore “romanticizing” their own virginity. Systemic oppression and objectification lead many women to objectify their own virginity in order to hold any ounce of power over men.

Hoop | Child Car Safety | Ad Council

0:01 : The first frame of the advertisement depicts two young children of dark complexion. The camera is at the children’s eye level, a couple feet in front of them. In the background, we can see their house and the front lawn that accompanies the house. The house has a blue siding with white siding around their windows. From what is in the frame, the visible part of the house is one story. The house has two pillars outside the front door to support an awning. On both sides of this awning, the front of the house borders well developed bushes or tall plants. Directly leading from the front door to the two children is a brick laid pathway. The front lawn is kept very neat, mowed recently and maintained well. The only item other than the house we can see on this lawn is the back half of a wagon on the left side of the frame. At the back of the frame, we can see a bush splitting across their lawn to divide their lawn from their neighbors. Giving the notion of a very typical, suburban area and suburban house layout, assumption is noted that the frame is being shot from the driveway that is not currently visible. This assumption leaves the driveway on the right side of the house with the majority of the lawn being on the left. With the children standing on the portion of the lawn that borders the driveway. The setting is relatable to the majority of people that would see this advert, being a typical suburbia household.

The child on the left is, presumably, a female who is holding a basketball in her right hand. She is wearing a scrimmage vest. also known as a pinnie. We can make the assumption that she is either coming home from a basketball practice, about to leave for a basketball practice, or is playing basketball outside. Under her pinnie she has a grey t-shirt with a rainbow we can at the top of the pinnie’s collar. From the size of the basketball in her hand, roughly 3/5 of her torso, we can assume she is somewhere between 6-8 years old. She has a short afro with a headband pushing the hair off her forehead. She is also chewing a piece of gum. Her eyes are fixated on something above her, simultaneously above and behind the positioning of the camera. With her eyes focusing on something off the screen, we are left in suspense. The director wants us to predict what she is fixated on.

The child on the right is a male who is leaning on a bicycle. The boy is a about half his head shorter than what we can assume to be his sister to his left. However, he is slouching over to lean on the bike, so he is presumably a little taller, similar to his sister in height. He’s wearing a plain navy shirt with what looks like grey sweatpants or sweat-shorts of some sort. He has a short buzzcut. His eyes, like his sisters, are fixated on something above and behind the positioning of the camera. Further pushing the suspense that something is going on behind the camera. Possibly relating to the attire of the sister or basketball that the sister is playing or about to play.

0:06 : When the frame switches, we are enlightened that the two kids were indeed sitting at the edge of the lawn, bordering a concrete driveway. The camera has changed places to the front of the driveway, revealing the front face of the house and two other figures in the driveway. These figures are presumably the mother and father of the two children. The mother is standing about 5 feet to the right of the younger brother, the mother is wearing a red and white plaid shirt with a pair of blue jeans. She is also fixated towards the same thing the two children are fixated towards. What they’re focusing on is, presumably the father, standing on top of a three-step stool eye level with a basketball net. This certifies our assumption that the eyes were fixated on something related to the daughter’s basketball attire.

With the rest of the house being shown, we can see the garage which happens to be open. Revealing a grey van alongside a few bikes. A typical garage for a suburban family, another way for the majority of the audience to connect with the advertisement. With the house being shown, we can also change our previous assumption that it was a one story house, to the fact that it is a two story house.

0:09 : After a few seconds that show an interaction between the father and the other three where he seems to be boasting about the basketball net which he seemingly fixed. The net then collapses. The backboard comes off the hinges and crashes into the ground. The daughter jumps back in fright while her brother grits his teeth in disappointment. The only emotion on the mother’s face happens to be disappointment, she must be used to the father failing handyman tasks. The father, still standing atop of his stool is frozen in shock after the hoop he was boasting about has been destroyed once again. The backboard lands on the ground right side up, staring at the camera at the front of the driveway. The frame stays like this for five whole seconds, for emphasis on the disappointment of what just occurred.

0:16 : The frame changes to a close-up of the daughter who goes on a brief monologue. With the captions on, she compares her father’s apparent love by attempting to build her net with the love he puts into his marriage. This changes the notion of the advert. What we first saw as a father trying to fix his daughter’s net. Is now seen as the father is a lovable father and spouse who puts every ounce of effort he has into his family. With this change in idea fresh in the mind, the next frame changes to an animated frame.

0:23 : The backdrop of the animated frame is sky blue with a small logo in the center. The logo depicts a kids car seat with a seatbelt present. Below the logo, is a URL to NHTSA.gov/TheRightSeat. By acknowledging the “.gov” of the URL, we now know this is a government produced advert. The connection between what was witnessed and their end-goal is clear. The father went through tedious work to fix this basketball net for his daughter and his son. In the end, through the efforts of his love, the net still did not suffice for their needs. If the father is willing to put this much effort and time into making his children happy, he should be able to put the little effort into finding the correct car seat to protect his children. The government producing this child safety ad makes us believe that they want to keep their children safe. No government will advertise the opposition of child safety. The link is short, giving the idea that it is very simple to go the site and follow the steps, that will lead to finding children the correct car seat.
