Core Value 1. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.
In this class, I have experienced the most feedback I have ever gotten on my writing. With my professor’s feedback, I have been able to reflect and revise my writing. I can adjust my writing and fix the mistakes that my professor has brought to my attention. Being able to reflect on my writing and see what my professor sees in my writing has made me a better writer. I find myself now looking at my work and trying to not make the mistakes my professor has pointed out. I also find myself revising my work more and working hard to make my writing the best it can be. A piece of writing in this class that I believe best reflects this core value is my Definition Rewrite. I found that when I was rewriting my definition argument I would implement the feedback into my new writing.
Core Value 2. My work demonstrates that I read critically, and that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities.
In this class, I have done a lot of counterintuitive work that makes me think critically about every text that I would read. The writing assignment that I have done in this course that would reflect this value is Visual Rewrite. The video I was writing about I watched critically and I placed my criticism into my writing. I communicated the ideas in the video to create a picture through writing. I evaluated the video to see how the ideas emerge and placed the ideas into writing.
Core Value 3. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.
In the Rebuttal Argument that I wrote for this class, I shaped this argument around an audience that I was trying to persuade. I analyzed the audience I was writing to and formed a purpose for my argument. I read argumentative texts for this argument and I wrote arguments against these texts. I listened to the argumentative texts and tried to think about the flaws in their arguments. Once I found a flaw in their argument, I was able to find information that benefitted my goal inside my writing and exposed the flaw in the opposing argument. This class helped me write a more specific argument that is targeted towards an audience. In my research for my Rebuttal, I felt like I could identify argumentative texts and create an effective opposing argument.
Core Value 4: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.
With the Stone Money writing task, I feel like it best demonstrates this core value. I researched the sources that were provided to spot ideas that would be useful to my writing. Researching, locating, and evaluating all of the sources for this writing task helped me create my own ideas in writing. I was able to look through the sources for this assignment and located ideas in the research that supported my own ideas in my writing. I selected research that provided evidence to support my own interpretations of the stone money task.
Core Value 5. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation. The power and ethical responsibility are reflected the most in my Causal Argument. With my research for this argument, I attempted to understand the academic sources and reflect them appropriately in my paper. I did not plagiarize my academic sources and acknowledged their contributions in my writing. All of the sources in my writing have been cited and included in a reference section. I respect the academic sources and used their ideas to help enforce my argument. The intellectual property of others is respected throughout my writing and can be shown in my Causal Argument.
I particularly like your description of the process of finding flaws in the work of others to exploit for your Rebuttal argument, Tacos. I have placed this post in your Verified Portfolio category, which I think will bring your contents to 9 posts, one too many. Figure out which one doesn’t belong there and remove it, please.
