Core Value I. My work demonstrates that I used a variety of social and interactive practices that involve recursive stages of exploration, discovery, conceptualization, and development.

Good writing can sometimes be perceived as something that comes naturally and effortlessly to certain people. However, I soon realized that good writing doesn’t appear on the first draft. I finally realize that good writing takes a lot of thinking, reflecting, revision, collaboration, and feedback for the writing to be shaped into the best form it can be. This changed my view on how authors write. No longer did I see that good writing was something that flowed out of talented individuals, but it takes a lot of effort, help, and a great number of drafts. This change of perspective has encouraged me into asking for more feedback, reflecting, and reviewing in my work. There were days where I felt like my writing could not get any better, whether it was because I was stuck or very attached to what I have came up with. But I experienced that each time I re-read my work I saw more spelling mistakes, grammar errors, and confusing sentences. I know now that writing is not easy and I have to always push forward and rewrite my work.

Core Value II. My work demonstrates that I placed texts into conversation with one another to create meaning by synthesizing ideas from various discourse communities. 

In my earlier works, I had a simple goal. I just wanted to get across to the readers the point of my writing. However, now I feel like my writings are supposed to be much more than getting a point across. I currently feel like my writing has to be more precised and I have to be more careful with the words that I choose and how I structure my sentences because I want my writing to have a little bit more meaning. After all of the assignments I had to do, I want my writing to have a huge change on how I am expressing my thoughts.

Core Value III. My work demonstrates that I rhetorically analyzed the purpose, audience, and contexts of my own writing and other texts and visual arguments.

I have already been taught to be mindful of the audience when writing essays, which only resulted in me changing my wording to appeal to the audience; however, this class has made me realize that there is much more to just appealing to the audience. In this class, the professor always emphasize the point of view of the audience and their persepctive on the student’s writing, whether it make sense or not. Many ways of writing were introduced to be like definition arguement to strenghten the audience’s understanding of the writing by informing readers more. Also, the professor put much emphasis on the purpose and context of the essay to make sure students are clear in their main point of the writing and that the writing flows together smoothly.

Core Value IV: My work demonstrates that I have met the expectations of academic writing by locating, evaluating, and incorporating illustrations and evidence to support my own ideas and interpretations.

Typically, I would do very little research and write my paper with an attachment of the works cited. However, by having my work on a blog and being able to link the articles to my writing, I feel like it brings to my writing clarity and a little bit of liveliness. It encourages me to add more illustrations like surveys and other ideas into my writing.

Core Value V. My work demonstrates that I respect my ethical responsibility to represent complex ideas fairly and to the sources of my information with appropriate citation. 

Not only have I felt I am more careful with the sentences that I choose, I also feel careful with my sources. I feel like I am handling with a lot of articles because the topics that we have to write in class required a lot of support. Therefore, with all of these ideas from other people to include in my writing and the different sources I had to handle, I feel like it has made me more careful with how I cite and paraphrase.
