Vitamins Are Deadly
Millions of Americans take various multivitamins everyday unaware of the risks. Not only are vitamins scientifically proven to commonly do more harm than good, including small but essentially harmless side effects such as stomach ache, and fever among other things. Multivitamins have no positive effects on preventing cancer and in some cases may cause disease or cancer. That’s saying something because multivitamins are obviously supposed to be helping.
Doing more harm than good is what’s used to describe vitamins and I believe that’s an understatement. Calcium, for example, is one of the most common supplements taken daily. Calcium in the right doses can be good for your body and it helps build strong bones. But Dr. Young from the center for integrative medicine did a specific study on calcium and the results are disturbing.“More and more studies are showing increased risks for heart attack and stroke among men and women taking calcium 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams (mg) per day as directed,” says Dr. Young. Heart attacks and strokes are among the leading causes of death among Americans and a simple multivitamin may be helping cause them.
Another way multivitamins can be harmful is when people continue to take synthetic versions rather than the natural version. This commonly happens with vitamin D.Vitamin D strengthens the immune system and boosts immunity which can be very helpful. Although when you take too much or take the synthetic version it actually causes muscle pain, mood disorders, abdominal pain and kidney stones. It may also increase risk for heart attack and stroke. So here we are, back to having heart attack and strokes from multivitamins. “Most reports of toxicity involve patients taking synthetic vitamin D2, so we prescribe natural vitamin D3,” says Dr. Young. Although the natural version of vitamin D may not be as harmful as calcium, the synthetic version can be just as harmful.
Making sure you body receives the right vitamins and nutrients is key to a healthy body and life. That doesn’t mean taking vitamin tablets daily is the option. Receiving these nutrients through a healthy diet is a much better option. Using fruits, vegetables, and whole foods is the way to positively gain all the nutrients your body needs. If everyone does their research on how harmful these vitamins can be, America would save a lot of money.
With American professors being three times more liberal than normal and 72% of college professors are liberal; it is evident that more professors will persuade liberalism which leads to how college professors are indoctrinating students. As a whole, that leaves professorates leaning far more to the left. With this being said, this affects our generation leaving colleges being a biased place.
Teachers are supposed to have an unbiased view in the class. They are not supposed to share their beliefs. But many of times we see it still happening. If more teachers are liberals, there will be more liberal talk throughout the school and in the classrooms leaving students unable to preach their beliefs. If a professor believes in certain things and a student doesn’t it could cause problems in the classroom ultimately leaving the student to fail, fear being failed or unadequately challenged which often leaves many of them unprepared for the real world.

Liberalism, merely a label that refers to a belief in the way government should run within a society. It’s a perspective on the proper role of elected officials and a decision on what types of public policies should be prioritized. Liberalism was made up of two related features from the western culture; the west’s preoccupation with individuality and the emphasis in other civilizations on status, caste, and tradition. It’s been around since the early 16th century. In Terrence Ball’s article, “Liberalism” he stated, “Liberalism is the culmination of developments in Western society that produced a sense of the importance of human individuality, a liberation of the individual from complete subservience to the group, and a relaxation of the tight hold of custom, law, and authority.” This leads to individualism.
Liberalism is a political ideology with the essentials of equal opportunity. They believe Americans should be able to look at the government to provide a structure and enacted laws to protect everyone for an equal society. In the 19th century the government was interfering in trade through importation tariffs. Britain defended the tariffs because it maintained price and agricultural produce. It resulted in a political crisis and it left the poor starving. Something needed to be done so it led to the repeal of the Corn Laws. This resulted in the formation of a political party which was committed to free trade and was also known as the Liberal party.
“According to modern liberalism, the chief task of government is to remove obstacles that prevent individuals from living freely or from fully realizing their potential. Such obstacles include poverty, disease, discrimination, and ignorance.” (Ball) They are very big on advocating public policies to get rid of inequality by using the government. There are also four ideas that guide liberal ideology; acceptance of conflict, resistance to power, belief in progress and civic respect. When liberalists say they want liberty they mean they want resistance to power which means not only political power, but economic and social power as well. With liberty, they also want respect for people in their own right.
The liberal belief in adversariality is the conviction that human beings are rational creatures and that we are capable of settling our political disputes through dialogue and compromising. This aimed more towards ending war and solving disagreements with other states through organizations such as the League of Nations, the United Nations, and the International Court of Justice.
Through an economic view point; liberals believe the government should provide more services for the less fortunate and increase taxes if necessary. Through a social view point; they believe in things such as gay’s having equal rights like everyone else. They are also supportive of abortions, embryonic stem cell research, and restrictions and regulations around the right to bear arms. They are opposed with the death penalty and want it removed for it is a “cruel and unusual punishment.”
If we look at the dictionaries definition of liberalism it states; 1) Not limited to or by established, traditional, orthodox, or authoritarian attitudes, views, or dogmas; free from bigotry. 2) Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the ideas and behavior of others; broad-minded.” In the article, “Dean’s World” the author tells us to look what the definition of liberalism does not say. It does not mention anything about the view of taxes or the views of homosexuality. It does not say anything about the right to keep and bear arms or about abortion, feminism, school prayer, or what to vote for. But what it does state is the fact that they can think and believe in whatever they want to and still be a liberal. Liberals could think abortion is murder or taxes are way too high. They could think legalizing medical marijuana is a horrible idea or how Bill Clinton was a horrible president. They can think freely and still be considered a liberal because the definition according to the dictionary does not state anything about liberals having to believe in supporting abortion or high taxes but instead being open to new ideas and tolerating the ideas and behaviors of others.
There are many arguments about liberalism and how some feel raising the taxes is unnecessary because if we really think about it, some of the money is going to things such as maintaining our roads where as the other half is going to people below middle class. People think that liberals fix unemployment by taking money from the employed and redistributing it to anyone below middle class. While others see this as beneficial.
One could say that when people think of liberals, they think of a specific set of beliefs as explained in the first few paragraphs. One could argue that there are different kinds of liberals. If we come to look at it, not all liberals are “free of bigotry,” “favoring of reform,” “unorthodox,” “broad-minded,” or “anti-authoritarian.” There seems to be a debate on whether one is really a liberal if they do not believe in these set beliefs. But according to some, we can still be a liberal and not agree with how others see and believe liberals are. There has also been a more purely conceptual or philosophical critique of new liberalism which is less concerned with its consequences and instead more focused on its priori injustices.
To sum up, There can be many different perspectives of liberalism but in the end there is only one true definition. With that being said, one can be a liberal and have different beliefs. Though most of their beliefs are going to be pro-leftist, some people might stray away from the politically correct liberalist and still be considered a liberalist while having opposing beliefs. One could be fiscally conservative and socially liberal while still agreeing with the dictionaries definition of liberalism which does not state specific beliefs such as pro abortion or being against the death penalty. One can have their own political views and still be a liberal.

Causal Chain
Contrary to many beliefs, Madame C.J. Walker was not the inventor of the relaxer and perm. Relaxer, aka creamy crack was stirred up and concocted by an African American man named Garret A. Morgan, a child of forms slaves in Paris, Kentucky way back in 1877. This invention of his was made to be used to manage African americans hair take the regular curls they were use to and relax it (making the hair straight). Many African american women now felt as though it was improper to not fit the European standard and wearing your hair in its natural state was disrespectful.
The invention of relaxer had many African american women walking around feeling all high, and mighty. You could feel as though they felt as though they were caucasian because they had straight hair and no nappy curls. Many women were and are still wearing their hair with relaxer in it. This has caused a division in the community of African American women. Some women still like wearing their hair natural and others like to wear it non-natural. It is crazy how the creation of a hair product can divide such a great race of human beings apart. This division is a serious debating topic in present times.
A movement has derived from this division. Names have been given to both sides of the divided race. The Naturalists which are the African american women who choose to wear their hair in its natural state and please themselves before they want to please society. Then there is the Non-Naturalist whom are the African american women that are choosing to fit the European standard look by using relaxer in their hair so that they can be apart of society and not be looked at different. Now the non-naturalists have low self acceptance because they rather wear a hairstyle to look like someone else than to wear their natural hair and accept how they look and be themselves. The Natural vs. Non- Natural Hair moment is an on going topic and will continue to be a movement because I see no end to this debate.
( The invention of relaxer caused the division in the african american women community which caused a movement to start later on down the line) ( Causal Chain: X caused Y which caused Z)

It is true that fear can lead to a lot of mental and then physical adverse conditions, but that is only after experiencing too much of it too consistently over too long of a period of time. Experiencing fear, or more preferably horror or thrill (safe fear) actually is very good for you. One could argue “but how can it be good for you if too much can hurt you?” and simply, I request upon whoever reads this, try to think of a single thing where it is impossible to have “too much” of it. Hell, even drinking too much water will kill you…
Fear has a lot of immediate benefits such as pleasure, euphoria, entertainment and relief but when you feel afraid that can have a lot of long term health benefits that could make for a better life. Fear first of all, is what keeps you alive, without understanding fear, without being familiar with it and having your senses honed, nothing would hold you back from crossing a busy intersection, or telling your boss to go fuck himself.
Another example, among many, is fear is what is needed to build confidence. Lemme ask you (yeah you) how do you build confidence? You are out on the town and you see that person from work or class you find attractive at a bar. You are afraid they will see you, you are afraid you wont know what to say or how to act or how to approach them, and you are in unfamiliar territory on top of it. People who are in the delusion that fear should be suppressed and avoid and not exercised will sit in their seat and try their best to ignore it or they would even go so far as to leave; but hopefully, not you. Instead you (regardless of your sex/gender) pick up your balls and go make a move, you take the risk. When you pull it off (because why wouldn’t you you are beautiful and charming and… whatever else you have going for you) you conquered the fear and are no longer a victim to it, and hell, it could also have been you made the move out of the fear of them getting away without you trying and then you knew you would regret it later. That fear fueled you to make your move and because you took a risk, and succeeded, you are now a more confident person. This example went on too long. Point is, because of fear, you take risks, you live and you learn how to better equip yourself for life’s challenges. A confident person is someone who has taken risks and either failed or succeeded but know that they have the tools to take on whatever lies ahead because of it. So get off your ass and get out there an take some risks, and remember to thank, Fear.

Your third short argument is due WED NOV 11. It will make an argument essential to your Research Position Paper, due FRI DEC 04. Combined with your Definition Argument and your Causal Argument, the Rebuttal Argument will contribute so much material to your Research Position Paper you’ll have very little original writing left to do to meet that deadline.
This Rebuttal Argument will identify (and demolish) the argument you feel is the strongest rebuttal to your own thesis. You know there are plenty of good arguments against your thesis. You’ve chosen a controversial thesis deliberately, knowing that—in fact because—it’s contrary to common knowledge. Lucky for you, common knowledge is almost always wrong, but still you must defend your position against it. Rebuttal arguments are respectful, specific, and firm. They acknowledge that your position is not the most popular opinion on a topic and that reasonable people hold opinions very different from your own but that nonetheless, yours is the correct position.
What’s the “Opposite” of my thesis? You may think the only legitimate rebuttal position is the opposite of your thesis, but that’s not true. First, we can’t always clearly state the opposite of a position; second, there are far more than two points of view on a topic. Let me offer an example. Your thesis may be that, contrary to popular opinion, car seats are unsafe for infants, toddlers, and young children. In your research, you may discover experts or studies that claim any of the following:
The best rebuttal argument takes on a real opponent, not a “straw man.” While it may be satisfying to offer a weak argument against your thesis that you can easily demolish, your victory is unlikely to impress your readers as persuasive. Instead, you need to imagine what your most hostile and critical reader is thinking about your argument, acknowledge that she has reasonable objections to your thesis, and then lower the boom on her.
So, what’s your rebuttal? Your rebuttal is to detail all the qualifications that must be met to make a car seat safe, taken directly from your opponents’ arguments. To not injure children, car seats have to be of good quality, the right size for the child (whose size keeps changing), and installed correctly; furthermore, the accident has to be the right kind of accident. If any of these conditions are not met, the child can be injured worse than if there had been no car seat! One by one, you could detail the likelihood that each of the conditions will not be met.
