Vancouver has quite the issue with heroin addicts committing a large rate of crimes. Addicts will go through nearly any length to reach their high, directly leading to a higher rate in crime. In response to this problem, Vancouver has initiated their own attempt at a solution: The “free heroin for addicts” program. By providing the drug, addicts will be off the streets, which in turn will prevent a percentage of minor street crimes. In addition, with proper distribution of said drugs, there will be less issues that will result in the hospital; Saving the city even more money. The program may not solve the issue of addiction, but it will lessen the inevitable consequences of those who cannot find their way out.
